Service of the storage battery

Service of the storage battery should be made according to the schedule of routine maintenance of the car.

The areometer and the charger will be necessary for performance described below procedures

Removal and installation

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect from the battery negative and positive wires.
  2. Remove a clamping level and take the battery from an impellent compartment of the car.

Installation

Installation is made upside-down.

  1. Check a condition of plugs of the battery.
  2. At connection of wires watch polarity observance. The first connect and fix a positive wire.
  3. Do not tighten a nut of terminal clips too hardly.
  4. In order to avoid development of corrosion grease plugs and tips of wires with acid-free vaseline.

Care of the battery

The electrolit of the battery allocates extremely explosive hydrogen, - do not come nearer at all to the battery with open fire!

  1. Watch purity of the battery and surfaces surrounding it. Do not allow hit on the top part of the battery of dirt and moisture. In case of need carry out external cleaning of the battery:
    1. Remove the battery from the car;
    2. Carefully pour over the battery hot water, watching that it did not get inside through ventilating openings of jellied covers;
    3. Carefully wipe the battery case.
  1. Smooth out plugs of the battery and terminal clips by means of a wire brush, an emery paper, or the special adaptation (see an accompanying illustration). Remove all traces of dirt and corrosion.
  1. Remove jellied covers and make sure of passableness of ventilating openings.
  2. Check electrolit level in battery banks, in case of need add the distilled water. The electrolit should hide plates completely. Do not overflow the battery, do not pour electrolits from one banks in another.
  3. If often there is a need for water addition, check the battery case on existence of signs of leaks. At detection of cracks replace the battery.

  6. In order to avoid development of corrosion grease plugs with acid-free vaseline.
  7. If as a result of an electrolit modulation it got on the pallet of the battery and surrounding body panels, act as follows:
    1. Process the polluted surfaces soda bicarbonate;
    2. Wash away soda hot water - remember that it soda roughly reacts with water, causing plentiful foaming;
    3. After the termination of foaming rinse surfaces with pure water and let's to them dry out;
    4. Remove from the processed surfaces the blown-up paint;
    5. Cover surfaces with anticorrosive paint.

Check of a condition and charging

  1. By the areometer measure density of electrolit of the battery (act according to the instructions attached to the device). Compare results of measurements to standard data:

    1. Disconnect from the battery negative and positive wires (in that order);.
    2. Check electrolit level in banks, in case of need add the distilled water;
    3. Remove from the battery jellied covers;
    4. Further act according to instructions of manufacturers of the charger.
  2. If after a charging the battery does not provide due overall performance, it is necessary to send it for check under loading with use of the special equipment in the next workshop on repair of automobile electric equipment. Check under loading in a combination to measurement of specific weight will allow to estimate adequately operability of the battery.
