Ignition system

General information

Cars of the Patrol/Maverick series described in this Management are equipped with one of two types of systems of ignition. On model with the engine of 4.2 l the ignition system with the distributor of usual type with the breaker of contacts whereas on models of 3.0 l the electronic distributor is used is established. Both distributors are put in action from a camshaft by means of a kosozuby cylindrical gear wheel and are equipped vacuum and centrifugal by proof-readers of an advancing of ignition. Models of 3.0 l are in addition equipped with the thermovacuum valve (TVV) of management of work of the vacuum proof-reader. The valve prevents depression giving on the proof-reader of the distributor until the engine will not get warm to the set temperature.

In the distributor from models of 4.2 l for interruption of giving of a food on primary contour of the coil of ignition the mechanical breaker of contacts is used. In the electronic distributor instead of contacts of the breaker the sensor of operating impulses is used, and management of primary current of the coil of ignition carries out the switchboard. At interruption of giving of a food in a secondary winding of the coil high-voltage tension which moves on spark plugs on VV to wires through a distributor begunok is induced. On models of 4.2 l for additional increase of tension of ignition during start of the engine the ballast resistor is used.

Both such as distributors are equipped with the device of restriction of turns of the engine, consisting of a begunka and the special screen located under a begunok. Begunok is equipped with a podpruzhinenny sliding electrode and a switching electrode. On reaching turns of the engine of value 5000 ÷ 5400 in a minute centrifugal force pushes away a sliding electrode outside, bringing it into contact to a switching electrode. The current of ignition of cylinders 1, 3, 4 and 6 thus goes through an electrode of switching and a screen plate to VV to plugs of cylinders 2 and 5 that leads to decrease in turns of the engine.
